So “The Boss” - not the one I like - just billed a $1500 order to a customer’s credit card despite the fact that the work hadn’t been done.

The same model as the car in question

Because he wanted to count it for the end of the month.
And didn’t look at the schedule.
And then he didn’t check to see that the leather had even arrived.
And then he billed the card without an installation or delivery date.

So I gave that customer the Boss’ cell phone number. Let him deal with an angry man who was buying this for his daughter.

Been there, wouldn’t do that. I know the pains of fitting in some job to try and count it for that month, or whatever. Pre-billing never works out. A smart bean counter will know that the work will get done and next month will be better for it, even if this month is a little off. But not all bean counters understand that. But there are supposed to be 10 beans in every jar! Why are there 9 in this one?

It’ll be funny when that customer does a chargeback, then angrily tells everyone he knows about the shady billing practices at your job. There goes that $1,500, plus the cost of the car, plus the cost of the other cars that dude’s friends might’ve bought there.

90% of what we do is for new car dealers so it won’t really hurt business that much. What hurts is Boss’ mood when he realized he made mistakes. I guess his dad was an alcoholic or something because he’s wound so tight that he loses it on any mistake.

I think those traits describe/don’t describe a lot of people, regardless of their upbringing. Like I said, the only person responsible for their bad behavior is the person behaving badly. A person’s background may help explain why they turned out the way they did, but eventually it goes from being a mitigating circumstance to an excuse.

I am not excusing him for being an asshole, but I am recognizing the cause of him being an asshole. Empathy... Not sympathy.
